Upgrade the WLC software from the CLI An easy tutorial on how to upgrade the Wireless Controller via the CLI. Helpful in case you do not have Web GUI access, or maybe you have several to do and are looking for a way of scripting the process. 1) Download the appropriate software for your controller and put the file in your local FTP or TFTP folder. (you should have one established by now) 2) Start your FTP or TFTP server. (*Note: some tftp server programs may not work with larger files sizes) 3) SSH into your WLC and login. At the prompt, issue the following commands: (Cisco Controller) >transfer download datatype code (Cisco Controller) >transfer download mode ftp (Cisco Controller) >transfer download serverip 10.16.11.178 (Cisco Controller) >transfer download path . (Cisco Controller) >transfer download filename AIR-CT2500-K9-8-0-133-0.aes (Cisco Controller) >transfer download start At this point, you will see the following output: Mode............................................. Type Y and watch the download process until it completes. At the end of the process, you can preload the AP software to all AP's on the WLC with the following command: (Cisco Controller) >config ap image predownload primary all Once fully completed, the WLC and AP's are then ready to reboot and load the new software.
