How to ensure messages are seen in the CLI console or Telnet/SSH session
Want to make sure that messages, alerts, alarms, etc are all seen in your console or remote session?
I like to ensure Logging is turned on, showing all logging messages, and as a good practice I increase the system logging buffer larger than the default (4096 bytes)
Router(config)#logging buffered informational
*May 3 15:59:24.817: %SYS-5-LOG_CONFIG_CHANGE: Buffer logging: level informational, xml disabled, filtering disabled, size (4096)
Router(config)#logging buffered 16384
*May 3 16:00:00.906: %SYS-5-LOG_CONFIG_CHANGE: Buffer logging: level debugging, xml disabled, filtering disabled, size (16384)
Note: The logging buffer size, does not need to be in increments of 4096, I just do it out of habit
To turn ON or OFF message display for Console sessions:
Router(config)#logging console
Router(config)#no logging console
To turn ON or OFF message display for Telnet / SSH sessions:
Router#term monitor
Router#term no monitor

Stop your device from trying to "lookup" typo's or commands entered outside of config mode:
Router#mistyped_command
(Router response hangs and you are forced to wait for it to finish trying to lookup the host or IP)
% Bad IP address or host name% Unknown command or computer name, or unable to find computer address
Enter this command, so the command prompt returns immediately:
Router(config)#no ip domain-lookup
Now try it again, and it no longer hangs
