Setup an AP to become a Workgroup Bridge...
This is something I often do when I need to make a workstation or cart mobile, or when there is no available cabling in the area and the device does not natively support wireless. I've had to walk several others through this process and so I have created this script to help people get theirs built and understand what basic config changes are needed.
Many of the fields will need to be changed to your specific WLAN configuration, and you can add addt'l security to the config, but this gets the basic point across.
** Converting an AP to a Bridge ***
!
dot11 ssid SECRET SSID <-- This is the WLAN you are trying to connect to
authentication open
authentication key-management wpa version 2 <-- Authentication type here
wpa-psk ascii MySecretKey <-- Key here if using WPA-PSK
!
interface Dot11Radio0
no ip address
shutdown
!
interface Dot11Radio1
no ip address
no ip route-cache
!
encryption mode ciphers aes-ccm tkip <-- Specify Encryption type(s) here
!
ssid SECRET SSID <-- Put the SSID here, under the radio you want it to run on
!
no shut <-- Be sure to turn-up your radio, they are defaulted to “shutdown”
!
antenna gain 0
station-role workgroup-bridge <-- Change the AP to a Bridge here
bridge-group 1
bridge-group 1 spanning-disabled
!
interface GigabitEthernet0
no ip address
no ip route-cache
duplex auto
speed auto
no keepalive
bridge-group 1
bridge-group 1 spanning-disabled
!
interface BVI1
ip address dhcp <-- Set IP for DHCP, or Put Static IP here and then add a default gateway below
no ip route-cache
!
end
This can be used for Point-to-Point Bridging, Point-to-Multipoint Bridging, or connecting a Bridge to a WLAN for mobility or for just "extending the wire".
