2504 Wireless LAN Controller N+1 High Availability (HA) Configuration
How to configure (2) 2504 WLC's to be in HA
*Note:
To configure HA, console connect to the Primary controller and enter the following command:
(Cisco Controller) >config advanced backup-controller primary WLC01 10.10.10.142
This tells the Primary controller the name of the Secondary controller and it's IP address.
Verify by using the "show advanced backup-controller command":
(Cisco Controller) >show advanced backup-controller
AP primary Backup Controller .................... WLC01 10.10.10.142
AP secondary Backup Controller ..................
(Cisco Controller) >
Next, console into the HA controller and enter the commands:
(Cisco Controller) >config redundancy unit secondary
(Cisco Controller) >show redundancy summary
Type of the Unit = Secondary
On the main page of the HA WLC Web GUI, you will now see the HA WLC licensed for the maximum number of AP's (75 AP's Supported).
All AP's should have a Primary & Secondary controller configured under each of their High Availability tabs. In cases where there are many AP's to configure this on, you should reference my tutorial on Configuring Primary / Secondary Controllers from the CLI.
*Note:
- The Cisco 2504 WLC's only support N+1 HA, and so AP SSO is not supported.
- Also, because an HA SKU (AIR-CT2504-HA-K9) is available, no permanent licensing is required on the HA unit. The HA unit will operate with AP's for up to 90 days before a warning message appears.
- Lastly, because these are essentially separate controllers and they are not in SSO, controller configurations must be maintained independently. In other words, there is no synchronization of configuration files between the 2 controllers.
To configure HA, console connect to the Primary controller and enter the following command:
(Cisco Controller) >config advanced backup-controller primary WLC01 10.10.10.142
